Get to Know Our Intern: Jessica Benjamin

We are thrilled to introduce you to one of our new interns, Jessica who will be joining us through August 2024 to complete her clinical internship in Music Therapy!

Q: Where are you going to college for your music therapy degree?

I’m currently working on my undergraduate degree in Music Therapy at Illinois State University.

Q: What is your main instrument and what are your other favorite instruments to play?

My main instrument is the clarinet, which I’ve been playing since I was 10. I’ve also been in choirs since I was 11, from show choir to concert choir. Lately, I’ve been enjoying improving my guitar and piano skills!

Q: Where are you from?

I’ve been living in Illinois my entire life, I grew up in Wheaton, IL.

Q: Why do you want to be a music therapist?

My twin brother found so much success and joy in working with his music therapist. Music therapy has been a huge part of our family since I was just a kid and when it occurred to me that I could pursue that, it was clear that I wasn’t meant to do anything else!

Q: What skills are you looking forward to learning about and working on in Music Therapy sessions?

I’m excited to learn about the many approaches to music therapy and expand my knowledge of using Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) with populations new to me.

Q: What are your interests outside of music therapy?

I’m part of a songwriting duo, and after a long time of hard work, we’re finally releasing our music! I also work for Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) and have a blast with their programs. Outside of that, I’m a big fan of biking!

Q: What do you want the Dynamic Lynks family to know about you?

Seeing clients succeed is what drives me forward. There is truly nothing more rewarding than seeing people achieve their goals! Music is such a powerful tool in doing so, and I can’t wait to learn from the experts here.

We are excited for this time with Jess to help her build therapeutic, scientific, and musical skills to best support a diverse range of clients through music therapy!
