Q: Where did you grow up, and what brought you to the Chicago area?
A: I grew up in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and moved to the Chicagoland area during graduate school.
Q: Where did you go to college for your music therapy degree?
A: I received my master’s in Mental Health Counseling and Music Therapy from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.
Q: What individuals and groups do you have experience working with?
A: I have experience working with neonates to adults. Specifically, I have worked with infants and caregivers, neurodiverse individuals, individuals with complex medical conditions, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
Q: What are your favorite instruments to use in Music Therapy sessions?
A: All the instruments! I love exploring together in session using ukulele and guitar as well as piano. I enjoy incorporating drums throughout my sessions as well. My favorite instrument to play in session is a tie between the ocean drum and the hapi drum!
Q: What are your favorite skills to work on in Music Therapy sessions?
A: I love to support my client’s sense of self, knowing that they hold the keys to self-empowerment and achieving their goals! I enjoy supporting self-expression, managing anxiety, social skills, attachment and bonding, and self-esteem. Some of my favorite ways to do this is through songwriting and music improvisation.
Q: If you weren’t a music therapist, what would you be?
A: If I weren’t a music therapist or a mental health clinician, I think I would focus on being a singer/songwriter and touring musician or running a coffee shop/bookstore that moonlights as a music venue!
Q: What do you want the Dynamic Lynks family to know about you?
A: I am excited to work alongside and support my clients! I do not view my clients as someone to “fix”, but instead someone to support and advocate for. I am here to meet each client where they are, honoring their individuality and supporting their needs. I admire the bravery that it takes to commit to therapeutic services in each of my clients and dedicate my work towards supporting each individual flourish while achieving their goals and being themselves!
Q: What does celebrating neurodiversity mean to you?
A: Celebrating neurodiversity to me means welcoming, validating, and supporting each person for who they are while creating an accessible environment for the success of all individuals.
Q: What are you most excited about joining the Dynamic Lynks team?
A: I am most excited about connecting with my clients and working alongside my team members! I am passionate about client connection and creating a space where my clients can feel comfortable and safe. I’m also thrilled to join a team of highly motivated, brilliant clinicians and work in an environment that celebrates neurodiversity!
